Lingnan Scholars Guide

FAQs

Lingnan is the Research Information Management System (RIMS), powered by Elsevier’s PURE, to capture all research-related data information, incl. researcher profile, outputs, grants and projects, activities, press and media, as well as research achievement, etc., forming the Single Source of Truth to reflect Lingnan’s Research Landscape. The same system has been adopted by over 200 higher institutes worldwide, including CityU, EdUHK and PolyU in Hong Kong.

  • Lingnan Scholars brings together all research-related information, forming a one-stop spectrum to showcase Lingnan’s research landscape and excellence.
  • By integrating with different internal and external data sources, it reduces administrative burden of staff at all levels on repeated data entries.
  • Research-related data on Lingnan Scholars would be structured and made readily available to fulfill different reporting and analytics needs.

The Steering Committee of Lingnan Scholars endorsed the following types of Staff / Students (with active employment / enrolment) as eligible users:

  • Academic Staff (Full-time, Part-time, and Adjunct Academic)
  • Research Staff (Full-time and Part-time)
  • Administrative Staff (Group 1 and 2)
  • Postgraduate Students (MPhil, PhD, Doctorate Degree)
  • Visiting Staff (Visiting Scholars, Artist- / Writer-in-residence)
  • Honorary Staff (Honorary / Emeritus Professor, Affiliate / Centre Fellow)

Note:

  • For other staff who consider yourself has need to use Lingnan Scholars, please submit your request to Library for review
  • For staff or students who left / graduated from Lingnan University, your Researcher Profile would be deactivated from Lingnan Scholars upon the end of your employment / enrolment period. Only research outcomes (i.e. publications, grants, projects, press / media or other activities, undertaken during the tenure in Lingnan University with author-affiliation specified as “Lingnan University”) would be retained in Lingnan Scholars as record.

Lingnan Scholars contains data about and can report on all aspects of research information, including (but not exclusively):

  • Researcher Profiles
  • Projects / Grants
  • Research Outputs
  • Research Activities (Community Engagement, Public Services, Public Lecture, Editorial, etc.)
  • Prizes (Honours / Awards / Distinction)
  • Press / Media Exposure
  • Impacts

Lingnan Scholars is designed to maintain an ongoing historic record of research activities at Lingnan. All research-related data (except research profile) undertaken during your appointment / tenure at Lingnan would be retained in Lingnan Scholars after your departure.

Eligible users as listed in FAQ#3 would have admin accounts set up for them to manage your profile. Login with your Lingnan’s account via: https://scholars.ln.edu.hk/admin/workspace.xhtml

Lingnan Scholars is a web-based application and can be used anywhere as long as you have internet access.

Some eligible users may encounter the following error screen when attempting to login.

If you encounter this issue, you are recommended to open up a new incognito / private window, and try login again. Please follow indications here.

Yes, you can grant access to your trusted person to upload and edit the content in your records in Lingnan Scholars. Once setup, your trusted user will be able to see/edit your complete profile on your behalf. You can add one or multiple trusted users as you need.

You may upload full-text files of your research outputs to Lingnan Scholars. Before any uploading, check the publisher’s policy first and make sure your action is complied with the copyright regulations.

 

Lingnan Scholars derives citation counts mainly from Scopus. Google Scholar Profile on the other hand counts grey literature and other non-academic resources, but not to be particularly screen for junk / duplicated sources. It citations counts would usually look much more impressive but not being taken as authoritative.

*Lingnan Scholars, is no longer supporting Internet Explorer 11. This does NOT mean that Lingnan Scholars is not working in IE 11, but some contents or features may not be displayed properly on screen.
