What is ORCiD?
ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor ID) is a registry of unique identifiers for researchers and scholars that is open, non-profit, transparent, mobile and community-based. It provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other contributor and supports automated linkages among all your professional activities.
ORCID provides two core functions:
Format of ORCID:
The ORCID iD is a URI with a 16-digit number that is compatible with the ISO Standard (ISO 27729). It is assigned to individuals randomly, with no information about a person encoded. An ORCID iD is expressed as:

Important!
With effect from the 2020/21 exercise, all local academics must provide valid ORCID iDs in applications in all capacity under all research funding schemes administered by the Research Grants Council (RGC), Hong Kong.
Lingnan Academic Staff, Research Postgraduate Students, and Doctorate Taught Postgraduate Students are encouraged to create/connect their ORCID iD via their Lingnan Scholars profile. It integrates your Lingnan Scholars account with your ORCID iD so that Lingnan Scholars can update your ORCID publication list automatically.
