What is InCites Benchmarking & Analytics?

InCites Benchmarking & Analytics (InCites B&A) is a citation-based evaluation tool based on data from Web of Science Core Collection, which allows you to:

  • analyze institutional productivity
  • monitor collaboration activity
  • identify influential researchers
  • showcase strengths
  • discover areas of opportunity

How to access InCites B&A?

  1. You can access InCites B&A via this link or through 1-Search
  2. To access InCites B&A, you will need to register for a free personal account first. If you already have a Clarivate account, you can use it to log in to InCites B&A
  3. It is recommended to set up or log in to your Clarivate account within Lingnan University's network initially to enable roaming access
    • You can access InCites B&A from anywhere after enabling roaming access!

Getting Started with InCites B&A

Please click on the buttons in the menu to learn the basics of using lnCites B&A.

Start a New Analysis

  1. Go to InCites B&A and log in to your Clarivate account
  2. To start a new analysis, select "Start an analysis"
  3. There are six entities you can analyze: researchers, organizations, locations, research areas, publication sources, and funding agencies
  4. After selecting the entity you wish to analyze, you can click on the "Start" button to start a new analysis directly
  5. Alternatively, you can click on the starter analyses at the bottom to begin the walk-through guide

Add Filters

After creating a new analysis, you can add filters to customize the analysis based on your needs.

  1. To add a new filter, search for the item you wish to analyze using the search box at the top or use the filter panel on the left
  2. Other than filtering items to analyze, you can also use the filter panel on the left to customize the year range, dataset, and document coverage for your analysis

Choose Indicators

In InCites B&A, there is a wide range of bibliometric indicators available for selection. Please refer to this handbook for the list of all available indicators.

  1. To add an indicator, select "Indicators" from the left panel
  2. Next, select the indicator(s) you wish to include. The selected indicators will be displayed in the result table

Choose Visualization

Other than the result table, you can opt to visualize the data in various formats.

  1. To choose a visualization, click on the "Visualization" button at the top of the result table
  2. Then, click "Choose a different visualization" and then select the appropriate visualization format for your data. Please refer to this guide for all available visualization formats

Add Baselines

Baselines can help you benchmark your performance.

  1. To add a baseline, switch to "Baselines" on the panel on the left
  2. Then, select the type of baselines you wish to add. You can choose from:
    • Global Baseline: Benchmark against global standards
    • Country/Region Baseline: Benchmark against specific country or regional standards
    • Baseline for All Items: Benchmark against all items in the result table
    • Baseline for Pinned Items: Benchmark against results pinned from the data table

To pin a result in the result table, check the box next to the result you wish to pin, then select "Pin on top".

Create Reports

You can either create a customized report or use a pre-defined template to generate reports.

Customized Reports

  1. After completing the visualization chart, click the "Add to Report" button at the top-right corner
  2. Then, specify a name for it and choose the location to save it
  3. You can add multiple visuals to a report. If you wish to view the report, please click on "Organize > Folder" in the top menu to locate your report

Template-Based Reports

  1. To view a template-based report, click on "Reports" then select the type of template you wish to use
  2. After that, you can further modify the report on the report page to fit your needs

Export Data

  1. You can export the result table in CSV format. To do so, click on "Download CSV" at the top-right corner of the page
